Obstetric emergencies are health problems that are life-threatening for pregnant women and their babies. An obstetric emergency may arise at any time during pregnancy, labour and birth. Hospital care is needed for all obstetric emergencies, as the woman may need specialist care and an extended hospital stay. Gynecologic cancer may be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. If your doctor says that you have a gynecologic cancer, ask to be referred to a gynecologic oncologist—a doctor who has been trained to treat cancers of a woman's reproductive system.
